Made it to New York

We left Geneva, Aug 1,  after a pretty sunset the previous night.  Our destination was Erie, PA.
The trip to Erie was a mild chop, typical of Lake Erie and some "rolly" 1-3 footers that Oliver did not appreciate. It is hard to nap when you have to grip the mats  in the cockpit. After a couple hours of motor sailing, we spotted a boat that looked familiar. Dale with the binoculars confirmed it was Chasseur, belonging to Terry and Suzanne from Muskegon. We ran into them in St. Clair Shores. They hailed us on the radio and we found out we were headed to the same location.

We made it to Erie in the afternoon after going around another Presque Isle. This is the harbor entrance.

After transiting a small bay, we had to pass under a 69 foot skywalk between the hotel and convention center. It is always a touch scary even though we know we have room. This is how it looks to us though.

Made it to the slip, actually a wall and were behind Cool Hand, another boat from Muskegon with Laura and Tom. We spent one night here. It wasn't a great place for Ollie and walks. The marina staff warned me were I should and should not go. Dale was always with us.

The next morning we got up and headed for Dunkirk, NY. We had a chop and and 1-3 footers that grew to 2-4. Oliver was definitely not happy. Had a good wind for about 2 hours in the early afternoon, otherwise it was all motor. Dunkirk is small town economically challenged as many towns are these days. They did have a concert on the pier Thursday night that we enjoyed.
Everyone was very nice here, but after the weather and waves not cooperating, we are anxious to leave.Ollie and I did get some short runs in while we were here. Dale rented a car so I did major grocery shopping and he picked up gloves, wood and supplies at a Home Depot we will need to transit the Erie Canal. Dale even took Terry and Suzanne to shop. The canal near Albion is temporarily closed due to a sink hole, but it should be open in 1-2 weeks they said (we hope). Tomorrow, the 4-6 footers are goneas well as a reported 59 mph wind gust during the storm on Aug 5, so we will leave for Buffalo in the AM.
